It鈥檚听World Children鈥檚 Day听tomorrow听听鈥撎齛 time to celebrate the rights of children听around the world.
This year, sa国际传媒 is听celebrating not only children, but the people who help them to grow and reach their potential.听
In a new video, we听meet听Yola Ibrahim, a teacher at the听Mtein听School in Lebanon who, thanks to a听sa国际传媒 project, was able to teach her pupils remotely when Covid-19 forced schools to shut.听听
鈥淲ith Covid-19 we faced a crisis. We were required to teach听online听but we had no idea how,鈥 she says.
Yola听is one of several teachers听at the school听who听were taught听how to move her lessons online听by sa国际传媒’s local partner, DOT Lebanon.听听
Among them was Yola鈥檚 pupil Majd el-Halabi. His mother Jihan, like millions of parents around the world, feared that her son鈥檚 education would suffer after Covid-19 forced schools to shut.听 听
But thanks to sa国际传媒鈥檚 support, which continues today, Majd is thriving and doing well at school.听听
鈥淚t鈥檚 not my job to just teach the basic things. It is important for the child to feel I am connecting with them,鈥 says Yola. 鈥淭his is the most important message for a teacher: you need to communicate with children with love.鈥澨
Parents also received training sessions on how to support their children at home and hundreds of devices were delivered to pupils to learn remotely.听
sa国际传媒鈥檚 Tech Hub programme in Lebanon is funded by the players of People’s Postcode Lottery.听听
For almost a decade, sa国际传媒 has been supporting children in Lebanon, including many refugees from Syria who were forced to flee their homes because of the civil war.听听
We helped launch the ground-breaking听double-shift system听that allowed Syrian students to use Lebanese schools after Lebanese children had gone home in the early afternoon. We presented a plan to the United Nations General Assembly and the approach was taken up by the Lebanese government. The system is still in operation today, helping more than 300,000 refugees in Lebanon to receive an education.
